# The Forecast Center, and when things run out

One place for what you are using, what runs out next and when to order it, with the item you are reading about open beside the table.

![The Forecast Center with Espresso beans open beside the table: 2.6 lb a day of usage, 12.7 days to runout, 47 days of history against the 10 needed, and a chart of the counts and restocks behind the rate, with one count left out.](https://handbook.company/marketing/updates/forecast-center.webp)

## Guessing from the last count

Knowing what to order meant looking at the current count and remembering roughly how fast it goes. That works for the six things you think about and not for the other hundred, which is how a kitchen runs out of one ingredient on a Friday.

## A pace per item, from your own counts

The estimate engine works out a usage rate per item from the checks you have already done, and everything else reads from it: what runs out first, what to put on the shopping list, and what Economics thinks you will spend.

Opening an item shows its history beside the table rather than replacing it, so you keep your place in the list you were working down. The page says how much history each estimate rests on, because a pace from two counts is a different thing from a pace from twenty.
