# Recipes that know what is on your shelf

Asked for · October 1, 2026 · Standards and recipes, Inventory

Make a batch from a recipe and have the stock move on its own. Recipes can now be linked to your items and costed, and making a batch is next to decide.

## What was asked for

Link every ingredient to the item it actually is, so "White Chocolate" on a recipe and "White Chocolate Sauce" on the shelf stop being two unrelated pieces of text. Then give the Inventory page a way to make something from a recipe: it takes the inputs out of stock and puts the finished thing in, in one action, instead of you adjusting each line by hand and hoping the arithmetic held.

## What has shipped

The first half shipped in 1.33.0. A recipe line can be linked to an inventory item, a syrup made ahead can say which item it makes, and owners and admins see what each size of a recipe costs, priced from the invoices already captured. The entry called What a recipe costs has the details.

## What is still to build

Making a batch needs a new kind of stock movement, because stock today can only be counted, moved, adjusted or restocked. It also needs an answer to what happens when a batch is made with less on the shelf than the recipe calls for: refuse it, which is honest and can stop a real batch from being recorded, or record it and flag the shortfall, which is how kitchens actually run. That decision comes before the build.
