Every trial button on the website now opens the sign-up form, and after signing up the page says to check your email. The sign-in page also stays light in dark mode.

## What went wrong

Every Start free trial button on the website opened the sign-in form, headed Sign in and Welcome back. Somebody new had to find Create one at the bottom of it before they could begin.

A new account has to confirm its email address before it can be used. Once the sign-up form was sent, the page showed a note for three seconds and then moved on to an empty sign-in form, so it was easy to miss that an email was on its way, and nothing said where else to look for it.

For anyone whose phone or Handbook was set to dark mode, the sign-in page, the policies and the local marketplace had a near-black header and footer around a light page. They looked like a different website from the pages that led to them.

## Starting a trial

Start free trial now opens the form headed Start your trial, wherever it appears: the website's header and footer, the banner on a demo handbook, and a business's listing in the local marketplace.

When the account needs its email confirmed, the form gives way to a message that stays until you leave. It names the address the email went to and says to open the link in it to finish. If it has not arrived in a few minutes, it says to look in your spam or junk folder. Use a different email puts the form back with the address ready to correct.

## The sign-in page in dark mode

The sign-in page, the policies, the local marketplace, the demos and the page for accepting an invite now have the website's own white header, with the same links, and stay light whatever your phone or Handbook is set to, menus and messages included. Your choice still applies inside the app, so it opens in dark mode if that is what you picked. On a phone, the browser's bar above the website is white to match the header, where it used to be dark green.

## What comes next

That message will get a way to send the email again, and a link that has expired or been used will say so rather than opening an empty sign-in form. The emails themselves are being redesigned to look like the rest of Handbook.
