# Staying signed in

Shipped · October 4, 2026 · 1.40.1 · Platform

On some phones the app opened the sign-in page on every visit, even for someone signed in. It keeps you signed in again, and an affected phone recovers by itself.

## What went wrong

To open quickly, the app keeps a copy of what you last saw in your browser. Each release kept a new copy and never removed the one before, so the copies piled up until they filled the space a browser gives a site. With no room left, the app could not save that you were signed in. It kept your sign-in for the page you were on and lost it on the next, so every visit began at the sign-in page, and so did coming back from the updates page. Continue with Google took you straight back in each time, because nothing was wrong with your account.

## What changed

The app now keeps one copy for whoever is signed in and replaces it with each release. The copies older releases left are removed the next time the app opens, before anything else loads. If the space ever runs out again, the app clears its own copy to make room rather than lose your sign-in. When someone signs in on a shared device, the copies kept for anyone else are removed too.

## A weak connection when the app opens

If the app could not check your sign-in as it opened, on a weak connection for example, it stopped listening for sign-ins altogether. When the connection came back the sign-in page stayed up, even though your sign-in had been renewed in the background. The app now notices and takes you to your handbook.

## If you were affected

There is nothing to do. Open the app once after this release and it clears the old copies itself. You may be asked to sign in one more time if the sign-in it lost has since run out.
