# Upload your sales

Upload a Shift4 Lighthouse sales report and Unit economics shows how a real day or month went: what sold, what it cost, and profit against break-even.

![The card for an uploaded month of sales: roughly $5,766 profit, with goods known for 79% of the sales. Below it, the till's food and drink sales before and after discounts, goods as a range from the cheaper size to the dearer, card fees beside the card surcharge, and the month's costs.](https://handbook.company/marketing/updates/upload-your-sales.webp)

## What was asked for

Break-even from your menu tells you where the line is. Owners also want to know how last month or last Saturday actually went against it, from what the till recorded rather than an estimate. The page can now read the till's own report.

## How the upload works

Export the sales by item report from Shift4 Lighthouse as CSV and choose it on Unit economics. The file is read on your phone or computer and never sent: only its lines and the totals worked out from them are saved. Every line has to add up, and the lines have to add up to the report's own totals row, so a file that was cut short or edited is refused with the row named.

The report has no dates in it, so you say which days it covers. For several days, the number of days you were open is suggested from your settings and can be changed.

## Matching till names to your menu

Each till name is matched to the menu once. A name that is the same as a menu item at a price near the menu's is matched on its own. Others are offered as suggestions to tap, or you pick the item, and nothing is chosen for you. Your answers are remembered, so the next upload has far fewer names to ask about.

## What the period shows

The period leads the page: the till's sales before and after discounts, goods at your menu's costs today, card fees beside the surcharge, the period's costs, and its profit or loss. A report without sizes cannot say whether a drink sold small or large, so goods are shown as a range. Sales of items with no cost yet are estimated, and the profit then says roughly.

When the surcharge line says its rate, as Dual Pricing does at 4% of card payments, the page works out how much was paid by card and counts card fees on that share only. What sold lists what to cost next, the lines that are not on your menu, and what kept the most and the least. You can ask the assistant about an uploaded period too.

## What comes next

Lighthouse has more than twenty reports, and the upload is built so each one can be added on its own. Reports that say which size and which modifier sold are next, then connections that bring sales in without a file.
