Break-even from your menu and costs

Unit economics now shows where you break even from your menu and monthly costs, before any sales are entered, and lets you try daily sales or a new price on the spot.

October 8, 2026 · 1.44.0

The Break-even card: you need at least $627 a day in sales to cover your costs, and daily sales of $700 typed below are at most $73 more than that. Under it, the day at those sales: at most $55 profit a day, with goods, card fees, labor, rent and profit as shares of the $700.

What was asked for

Unit economics used to wait for a typical day: a count of how many of each size you sell. Until every count was typed in, it could not say whether you were breaking even or what anything should cost, and most owners are too busy to sit down and count. The page now starts from what you already have.

How break-even works without sales

With your prices, your costs and what the shop pays in a month, the page works out what a sale keeps across your menu after goods and card fees, and how much you need to sell in a day to cover your costs. It treats every size with a price and a cost as selling the same and says so beside the number. One number for monthly costs is enough to start, and you can split it into rent, wages and the rest later.

Break-even is shown in money, rounded up to the dollar, with the month beside it. When a cost on the menu is only partly priced, it reads at least, as everything on the page does.

Daily sales

Type about what a day open sells, and the page adds what such a day makes once goods, card fees, labor and rent are paid, which prices miss your profit goal with a price to try for each, and the what-if panel. The number is never saved, so you can try a slow day and a busy one. A typical day still replaces the menu average with your own mix once it has a count on a size with a price and a cost.

Try a price

Pick any size, type a price, and see what it keeps and how break-even and the day follow, beside the same figures now. Nothing is saved, so it works in the demo too, and the assistant can do the same when you ask what a new price would change.

What comes next

Next is uploading a sales report from your point of sale, starting with Shift4 Lighthouse, so the page can work from a real day or month. Connections that bring sales in on their own follow after that.
