View item on the shopping list

On a shopping trip, View item opens the whole item over the list. Owners and admins can change any part of it there, and staff can look it up without leaving the trip.

Three phone screens from one shopping trip. The first is Log shopping item for Cleaning Tablets at Riverside Kiosk, with View item under the supplier. The second is Cleaning Tablets opened over the list for an admin: At a glance with 142 tablets on hand, then Where it is kept with Add location. The third is the same item for a member of staff, scrolled to Suppliers and prices: PackRight Supply at $0.27 a tablet and Metro Wholesale at $0.25, with no Add supplier button.

What was wrong

Logging an item on the shopping list used to offer View item, which took you to the Items page. Only owners and admins can open that page, so staff hit a wall, and anyone who went lost the quantity they had typed and their place in the trip.

In October we took View item out and gave owners and admins Change supplier in its place. That kept the trip, but staff were left with nothing to look at, and a supplier was only one of the reasons people opened the item in the first place.

How View item works now

Tap an item on the shopping list and then View item. The whole item opens on top of the list: what is on hand at each location with its minimum and maximum, the suppliers and their prices, the units it comes in, and how often it is checked. On a phone it fills the screen. Close it and you are back in Log shopping item with what you typed still there.

Update supplier price on the same page has View item too, and it opens the same way, so a price you have typed stays put while you look.

Who can change what

Owners and admins can change any part of the item from there. Edit its basics, add a location or change a minimum, add a supplier or make one the primary, update a price, or edit its units and checks. Each change opens over the item, and the shopping list shows it once it refreshes.

Staff see the same item read only. The numbers, the suppliers and each price's history are all there, and there are no buttons that would only tell them no. The demo shows it read only as well.
